I first got into competitive quiz when training for University Challenge, back in 2019-20 at Imperial. While stressful, I had great fun captaining my team to the semifinals of our series, losing to the eventual winners by a small margin. My favourite game was against the delightful Exeter team, where I converted questions on literature, science, and most importantly the music starter on ABBA. After training two further generations of Imperial on University Challenge and helping to develop the Imperial quiz society, I have since moved away from all things University Challenge. In 2024, I appeared on Only Connect as part of the Bloomsbury Group, pictured above. We reached the quarterfinals
From June 2023-24, I was the president of UK Quizbowl, the organisation that runs the UK Circuit and helps quiz societies to grow and interact with each other in the format of quizbowl (similar to University Challenge). You can find out more about quizbowl in the links, or my interactions with it on my QBWiki page. I played for universities from 2018-2024 before retiring, and may still play the occasional 'Open' tournament. I won the national championships once in 2022, with my teammates from Cambridge A, and won ACF Regionals in 2024 with my team at Durham A. Some stats from recent tournaments can be found here.
I currently play in the Connections Online Quiz League with the Zoomsbury Group, alongside my Only Connect teammates and Liam Hughes. We are four-time UK champions.
My love of quiz mainly comes from a lifelong love of learning things and I would advise anyone wishing to get into quiz to just start reading about subjects they like- or be surprised by finding loves of subjects that you never knew you were interested in. In particular, I've discovered a love of so many different kinds of music. In quizbowl I specialised in fine arts and literature. I should really learn more about sports.
