I am the conductor of the Palatinate Ensemble for 2024-25; this is an auditioned group that performs chamber music and mixed chamber ensemble repertoire. I am also the musical director for Durham Opera Ensemble's 2025 production of Iolanthe. My teacher is Karen Ní Bhroin .
I first conducted as part of the London Schools’ Symphony Orchestra’s summer concerts under Peter Ash in 2017. In 2019, I set up Kohncertino, a chamber orchestra for London conservatoire and university students, conducting a programme of Mozart and Mendelssohn, which he followed up with three further concerts and a course with Peter Stark. Then, I was advised by Tim Redmond, with highlights including Beethoven’s 8th symphony, Coleridge-Taylor’s Nonet and the original thirteen-instrument version of Appalachian Spring. After joining Durham University, I became involved with Durham University Palatinate Orchestra as their Chamber Orchestra conductor.
My other experience includes over ten years as a horn player in student and professional groups, holding a prestigious Ash scholarship at Imperial College that enabled me to take French Horn lessons with Simon Rayner at the Royal College of Music, and I previously learnt with James Topp. This year I am the principal horn in DUOS Symphony, having previously led the section at Cambridge and played in several orchestras at Imperial. With DUPO Chamber, I benefitted from a masterclass with Dinis Sousa (Royal Northern Sinfonia), and learnt with Pablo Urbina. I have sat in on several conducting classes (including Sian Edwards, Martyn Brabbins and Natalia Luis-Bassa) and rehearsals with student groups, the RNS and the Philharmonia orchestra.
